Although the PC market is increasingly being called a spec tax, many games and work programs still run on PCs.
So, it's true that tablets and other mobile devices have fallen a little short in catching up with the productivity of PCs.
In this series, we will explain to people with communication difficulties how to buy a cost-effective computer, whether it be a prefabricated PC, a laptop, a used PC, or a new PC.
1. Where will you use your computer?
Even so, you can buy a good product as long as you are not sure of what you will use it for.
From a usage perspective, think about what kind of work you will mainly use your computer for.
Please refer to the following example.
It's mainly for office use, and occasionally I play less demanding games like LOL.
I mainly play games that require some computer performance, such as Battlegrounds.
I mainly use Adobe programs such as Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
I need a lightweight office laptop that is easy to carry.
2. What is your budget for a computer?
While I wish everyone could buy a high-spec computer without any worries, most of us have to compromise with our budget.
The reason I set a budget is because I need to buy a computer that can maximize the performance of the main tasks I do within my limited budget. In other words, I need to maximize the cost-performance ratio.
To go a step further, I also need to consider whether I am utilizing just the computer itself, or whether I am utilizing all of the peripherals such as the monitor, speakers, headset, keyboard, mouse, etc.
Now, let's combine your budget with the uses for your computer that you thought of earlier. The following are just examples.
It is for business use and I play games that do not require high performance such as LOL. / 500,000 won
I mainly play games that require some computer performance, such as Battlegrounds. / 800,000-1.1 million won
Primarily uses Adobe programs such as Premiere Pro and Photoshop. / 900,000-1,000,000 won
I need a lightweight and portable office laptop / 600,000-800,000 won
3. What are the performance requirements of the programs I mainly use?
Even if you are not familiar with computers, you can easily find the
"(Program name) Recommended Specifications"
A search will give you a good idea of what level of performance your computer should have.
Let's look at the following example as an extension of the above example.
LOL recommended specifications
Battlegrounds Recommended Specifications
Premiere Pro recommended specifications
If you do a search, you'll probably come across a table like this:
CPU AMD Ryzen 2600 or Intel Core i5-8500 or later
GPU AMD Radeon RX570 or NVIDIA GTX1660 ti or higher
RAM 16GB or more
Storage space : 100GB or more SSD or NVMe flash memory drive
The table above shows how much performance each part of your computer requires.
It's okay if you don't understand all the words above. You'll gradually understand them from now on. For now, you can just go ahead and think, "The computer I need to buy has roughly this much performance!"
In the next post, I'll look at which parts I should buy and whether they will give me the performance I want.
